Standardized testing

In response to Rosalie Dance:

Our local school district recently moved to a more 'equitable' test as a
screening instrument to use in selecting students for its Gifted and
Talented Education (GATE) program. It produced an odd result: GATE teachers
are now finding students in their classes who cannot read or write--in any
language. This is not a welcomed development.
