I have not been an active participant in this listserv but I vote to keep
it going. To support that vote here are three comments:

-- A recent useful message: I found the message from Jane Jackson to be
very helpful. I will use some of the suggestions mentioned for leadership
training in my next project, summer 1997.

-- Here is something that has worked in projects for which I consult:
Conduct a one-day mini-conference as part of the summer workshop.
Participants plan and conduct sessions just as they would at, say, a state
NCTM conference. There is a "conference program," concurrent sessions with
lots of great talks/workshops, and other teachers and/or past participants
can be invited. The participants rate the experience highly both in terms
of preparing them to be leaders (at least in the context of giving
presentations) and in terms of learning some new content and teaching
approaches.

-- Burning question: Is leadership training just a very practical matter of
preparing to conduct effective outreach activities for a variety of
audiences, or is there some value in more general and abstract leadership
training? If the latter, how do you do it?

Subject: Our future

Hi All: In the last couple of weeks I've had messages from people who
are interested in joining this leadership listserve, which has made me
think about it anew. The topic of leadership is clearly important,
yet we've all been silent for quite a while. Joni Falk, from TERC,
and I have discussed whether the listserve had just run its course.
OUR QUESTION TO YOU: Is there interest in continuing the dialogue
about leadership development in teacher enhancement projects? If you
are still interested, please post a reply, and indicate two or three
topics, questions, or issues that you hope the list will address. If
we hear little continued interest, we'll acknowledge that the
discussion has run its course. THANKS and the best for Thanksgiving,
Susan
