In response to Susan's questions about leadership goals, it is my
observation that many teachers are assuming leadership roles in domains
other than the classroom and school. So, just helping them become the
very best teachers probably does not provide them with the expertise,
understanding, and savvy to provide leadership in areas such as advisory
boards for organizations, policy making, etc., etc. "Direct instruction"
can at least bring them to an awareness level of other domains and their
own role as leaders.
