Education Standards

This session explores the Standards in an innovative way. Youll engage
in an interactive discussion about inquiry in the Standards that you can
use with teachers and others to stimulate important conversations about
the changes the Standards imply for science teaching and learning. The
session will include video clips from the Private Universe video series.
10:00 - 11:00 a. m. Awareness Kit for the National Science Education
Standards for
Administrators and Supervisors

This session will focus on the National Science Education Standards
Awareness Kit for Administrators, Science Supervisors, Curriculum
Developers, and Policymakers. The kit is designed to help a range of
educators and policymakers understand their role in building a system
that supports improved science teaching and learning.
11:00 - 12:00 p. m. Awareness Kit for the National Science Education
Standards for Teachers

This session will highlight the NSTA Awareness Kit for the National
Science Education Standards for Teachers. The kit is designed to
introduce teachers to new ways of teaching science and the resources to
support their teaching as outlined in the Standards.
12:00 - 1:00 p. m. Just Think: Problem Solving through Inquiry: A K-8
Science Video Series and Guidebook

Just Think is a K-8 science video series and guidebook produced for
workshop leaders, teachers, administrators, community and business
leaders, and parents. The session will focus on ways to use the
materials as an opportunity to reflect on and build awareness of science
teaching and learning through inquiry.
1:00 - 2:00 p.m. The Private Universe Teacher Workshops
Kathy DiRanna, California Science Implementation Network
Irvine, CA
In this session you will learn about the Private Universe teacher
workshop series that expands on the concepts presented in the original A
Private Universe. Each workshop video focuses on one theme and one
content area, using specific examples to show how students preconceived
ideas can create critical barriers to learning.
2:00 - 3:00 p.m. Teacher to Teacher with Mr. Wizard

This video series was developed to showcase inquiry-based teaching and
learning strategies using a variety of published science materials and
kit-based units. During this session you will view one of the videos and
discuss ways of using the materials to share the vision of the Standards
with a variety of audiences.
3:00 - 4:00 p.m. Science...Simply Amazing, A Parent Awareness Kit

Science...Simply Amazing, one of the Awareness Kits available from
Annenberg, is designed to help parents of elementary and middle school
students become familiar with how children best learn science as
described in the Standards.
