Each month TEECH will feature selected Teacher Enhancement projects that
highlight a specific topic within the field of teacher enhancement. Our first
theme will be on offering professional development courses online. We feature
two projects and discuss their different approaches and strategies to online
courses.

We invite you to look at this new feature --Projects in Profile --which is
hot linked from TEECH's home page http://hub.terc.edu/terc/teech.html. In
addition we have created a mailing list on this topic so that PIs and leaders
in the field can discuss key issues around designing professional development
online with PI's and senior staff of projects doing that work.

To subscribe to the mailing list send a message to:
ntlist_manager@teech.terc.edu
In the body of the message:

If you have difficulty subscribing please contact Cara_DiMattia@terc.edu

The two projects featured this month are The National Teachers Enhancement
Network (NTEN) at Montana State University, and International Netcourse
Teacher Enhancement Coalition (INTEC) at the Concord Consortium.

The discussion will be co-moderated by: Kim Obbink and George Tuthill of
Montana State University's National Teacher Enhancement Network (NTEN)
project; George Collison, the Academic Coordinator for the Concord
Consortium's International Netcourse Teacher Enhancement Coalition (INTEC)
project; and Sean Smith of Horizon Research, Inc. who has been doing the
evaluation for
Montana's NTEN project.
>
They will be happy to discuss any questions or issues related to designing
online professional development. Topics of special interest are:

-the importance of incorporating face-to-face meetings;
-the latest useful software and web technology opportunities;
-how to support faculty in the process of converting a great
course into a great netcourse;
-the advantages of using a Lotus Discussion list on the web vs.
FirstClass conferencing software

The discussion will open on February 7, and will continue for 4 to 6 weeks.
Looking forward to hearing from many of you.
