Dear PI,
Welcome to the TEECH's newest discussion group entitled "Leaving a Legacy:
Sustaining a Project after the Funding Ends." For the first two weeks we
encourage all of you to post a brief note introducing yourself and your
project, and stating a question or issue that you would like to see addressed
within this discussion.
Last year I sent a needs survey to PI's of teacher enhancement grants so
that TEECH could identify areas of shared interest. PI's were asked to share
one significant question or issue that they were grappling with in their
work. The issue of sustaining a project repeatedly surfaced.
I have provided some of the responses below. It is our hope that when you
add your questions to the mix that you will provide the group with more of a
context than these needs survey questions. It will be helpful to explain why
the issue is an important one to address, and how it is currently shaping
decisions made in your project.
o "How do we continue to share the knowledge gained now that the 'funded'
period is ending?"
o "How do we maintain a teacher leader network with limited funds & large
distances?"
o "How to maintain teacher engagement without our direct support."
o "How to keep the project going after NSF Support."
o "How to continue contact with participants once the grant ends."
o "How do we support participants once they return to their sites after the
summer institute experience."
o "How do we maintain enthusiasm during school year? Public school teachers
have such demanding lives - both professionally and personally that much of
the institute work fails to have the desired effect."
o "How to most effectively maintain active support networks of over 2000
members with diminishing budgets and resources."
o "What is the long term impact of TE work?"
o What are the variety of products that TE projects produce - and what
relationship do these products have to the project's legacy?
After the first two weeks we will assemble a panel discussion to discuss some
of the issues that have arisen. This panel will be made available to you via
Real Audio and also with a text transcript. The open discussion will then
continue to share reflections, strategies, and decisions that have been made
regarding the leaving of a legacy.
So please--- post your first intro message and query by February 10th.
Thanks
Joni Falk
