Laurie's point is very interesting. We don't need to worry about trusting
inanimate things (like the weather) (and of course naked people) but must be
more careful with people (who have their clothes on). This makes good sense
to me but I wonder if it holds up when put to the test. It seems this theory
would predict that psychologists and social workers would be way under
represented in email discussion groups. Is this true? I do not have the
vaguest idea. Does any one see how to refine this kind of test and then how
to collect data to confirm or refute it? Results might have a profound
influence on how we go about developing electronic communication systems.
Someone at BBN ought to care about this.
